Allison Katz: Diary w/o Dates

Commanding two galleries at once is no small feat, but artist Allison Katz is up to the challenge. At Centennial Square, a gallery housed within a public library notable for its brutalist design, she hangs large-scale paintings that tangle with the pastoral imagery of the French Revolutionary Calendar. Her sardonic Giant Cock, for example, heralds the decimalisation of France with puff-chested bravado.

Meanwhile, at a former private residence on the lake, her posters, wall paintings and ceramics snake through the gallery’s stately interconnecting rooms, expressing the artist’s sense of history as circular and – in her anecdotal usage of motifs – undated.
